Xulia Bande, 'Son de Arrieiro' Tinto
This wine is an homage to my grandfather who, like many 'muleteer', with no other sound than his own voice and the company of his mules, plowed the roads of towns and villages of Galicia, allowing the wines of Ribeiro to go to places beyond our borders. In the twilight of his life, he immersed me in a world at that time unknown to me, always looking for, as he used to say, the reward of a job well-done.
The fruit for the Son de Arrieiro Tinto is hand harvested, then brought back to the winery to undergo a two day cold maceration before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for 12 months before being bottled.
Arrieiro comes from the word 'muleteer', or mule driver. Xulia's grandfather worked driving mules throughout Galicia maintaining roads.
