Artuke, 'El Escolladero'
El Escolladero, a wine of minuscule production (~1000 bottles), is a limited release from Artuke. The grapes are vatted in 2000kg micro-tanks, and undergo daily punching down and pigeage. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barrels. La Condenada then spends 12-16 months in 600 liter French oak barrels before bottling after a soft filtration without stabilization.
Artuke is a portmanteau of brothers Arturo and Kike de Miguel Blanco.
Escolladero comes from the Spanish word 'escollo', which means difficulty, obstacle. The origin of the name of this wine comes from that word since the vineyard is located near one of the most difficult passages through the Sierra Cantabria mountain range.
